These teaching slides complement Stage 3 Year B of the NSW Mathematics Sample Units of Work, Unit 29, released in 2026.
Please note: The unit of work is not available yet - only the teaching slides, with no set date of completion. 

Unit Description: 

This unit teaches students to compare, describe, name, visualise and construct skeletal models of prisms and pyramids by examining nets and two-dimensional representations. Students will recognise the equivalence of measurements in millilitres and litres and investigate capacities and the volume of irregular solids using displacement, recording measurements using decimal notation.

NSW Outcomes:

MA3-RN-02 compares and orders decimals up to 3 decimal places
MA3-3DS-01
visualises, sketches and constructs three-dimensional objects, including prisms and pyramids, making connections to two-dimensional representations
MA3-3DS-02
selects and uses the appropriate unit to estimate, measure and calculate volumes and capacities
MAO-WM-01
develops understanding and fluency in mathematics through exploring and connecting mathematical concepts, choosing and applying mathematical techniques to solve problems, and communicating their thinking and reasoning coherently and clearly
