These teaching slides complement Multi Age K-2 Year B of the NSW Maths Sample Units of Work, Unit 13 released by the Department of Education in 2022-2023.

Attribution is given to: © State of New South Wales (Department of Education), 2023.

This is a perfect time saver for you and your classroom. Have smooth transitions between lessons.

Please note: that due to copyright licensing, little prep may be required on your part as I am not able to insert all resources into the teaching slides. I will provide prompts within the slides to ensure you know exactly what resources need to be inserted and on what slides to ensure that the flow of your lesson is fluid and seamless.

What's Included:
  • An entire teaching slide with interactive games and thought provoking lesson content.
  • A simplified version of the NSW Maths Sample Unit of Work - in pdf format.
  • Additional activities to support teaching and learning content.
  • Links to online interactive games to enhance student engagement.
  • Educational videos and songs attached and linked within the slides.
  • Learning Intentions and Success Criteria for each lesson.
This is just one of many for the entire year!!!
Take the stress out of planning and organising. Walk into your classroom feeling organised and prepared to teach your lesson.

Unit Overview:
This two-week unit develops student knowledge, understanding and skills of making and using equal groups. Students are provided opportunities to:
  • recognise, model and use equal and unequal groups
  • share collections by forming equal groups
  • use arrangements to distinguish between the number of groups and the number in each group when describing collections of objects
  • solve multiplication and division problems using objects, diagrams, images, and actions.

These “load and go” teaching slides have been purposefully created to make maths lesson delivery seamless, engaging, and aligned with the NSW Mathematics Sample Units. Designed in PowerPoint for ease of use but can also be opened and edited in Google Slides.

In edit mode (not slideshow or presentation mode), teachers and students can drag and drop digital manipulatives such as counters, MAB blocks, and other visual tools directly on the screen. These interactive elements act as digital alternatives to physical classroom materials, ideal for schools with limited access to hands-on resources or for teachers who prefer a shared, on-screen model for class demonstrations.

Getting Started

To use these slides in Google Slides:

  • Upload the PowerPoint file to Google Drive.
  • Open the file, then select File → Save as Google Slides.
  • Review the formatting before teaching, as some minor layout changes may occur when converting from PowerPoint to Google Slides.

If you prefer to use the slides offline or on an interactive whiteboard, you can open and edit them directly in PowerPoint.

How to Teach with These Slides

  • Use the slides for whole-class explicit instruction, modelling, and guided practice.
  • Write, draw, or type directly over the slides to demonstrate concepts, solve problems, or complete shared mathematical tasks.
  • Display independent activities for capable students to complete while you work with smaller groups or individuals who need additional support.
  • Each presentation includes interactive manipulatives that can be moved freely during lessons, making it easy to demonstrate number concepts, place value, fractions, and other mathematical ideas dynamically.
  • Additional online maths games are embedded throughout to provide students with opportunities for practice, exploration, and consolidation. These digital games offer instant feedback and can be used as informal assessment tools to check for understanding and application of key concepts.
  • Use them during maths rotations, for fast finishers, extension activities, or as optional homework tasks. If a suggested game does not suit your class, simply delete or skip the slide. It is easier to remove content than to add new material.
  • Some games require a paid subscription (for example, Study Ladder), as Australian-based maths resources are limited. These have been included for schools that already have access to these platforms.
  • All hyperlinks and media are embedded for instant access, allowing teachers to open resources without searching through documents or managing multiple browser tabs.
  • Save your annotated PowerPoint file and return to it anytime. No more lost whiteboard notes or worrying about someone erasing your work. Everything stays exactly where you left it, ready for next time.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Engaging and interactive: Ideal for visual, hands-on, and digital learners who thrive with active participation.
  • Teacher-friendly: Quickly preview lessons in grid view to see daily focus areas, required materials, and potential adjustments for your students.
  • Curriculum-aligned: Built to save preparation time while maintaining alignment with the NSW Mathematics Syllabus and Sample Units.
  • Real-Time Work Samples: Take a screen capture of the lesson on the board and save for lesson evidence.

These teaching slides have been created to support flexible teaching, whether in-class or online, and to make every maths lesson more interactive, visual, and easy to deliver.
